Vietnam’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for March edged up 4.7 percent on the same month last year.
In the first three months of 2014, the IIP recorded a year-on-year rise of 5.2 percent, higher than the rate of 5 percent in 2013.
Several industries posted increases such as textile (20.2 percent), leather and leather products (19.4 percent) and ready-made clothes (14 percent).
The northern port city of Hai Phong and the central city of Da Nang were among the localities seeing the highest IIP increase rates, with11.3 percent and 10.5 percent respectively. They were followed by Quang Nam province (8.9 percent), Dong Nai province (7.1 percent), Binh Duong province (6.5 percent), Ha Noi (3.9 percent), Bac Ninh (4.8 percent), Vinh Phuc (0.2 percent), Can Tho (5 percent), Hai Duong (6.4 percent) and Da Nang (10.5 percent).
Meanwhile, decline in industrial production was seen in Quang Ninh province (3.5 percent), Ba Ria-Vung Tau province (1.7 percent), and Quang Ngai (1.9 percent).
