23,300 workers sent abroad in first quarter

HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam sent nearly 23,300 guest workers abroad during the first quarter of the year, according to the latest report released by the Department of Overseas Labour.

The department also said that in March alone, nearly 9,350 people were recruited to work abroad.

Taiwan was Viet Nam’s largest labour export market in the period, receiving 5,268 workers, followed by Japan (over 1,150), South Korea (nearly 470), and Malaysia (more than 440).

Other markets include Saudi Arabia (336), Libya (nearly 300), the United Arab Emirates (about 250), and Macao (nearly 180).

This year, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs plans to send a total of 90,000 workers overseas, a modest plan that is slightly higher than the total number of workers going to work abroad last year (over 88,150). — VNS
