The shooting occurred at about 9:45 pm on Ton That Thiep Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, and the injured victim is Nguyen Ly Quoc, 36, a Vietnamese Canadian.

At that time, when Quoc and his three friends – of Canadian nationality – were taking a stroll on the street, two young men suddenly rushed to them on an SH scooter.

The youth on the back seat then took out a gun and fired one shot at the group of visitors. The shot hit Quoc on the thigh.

The strangers sped away after the shooting and Quoc was taken to Cho Ray Hospital for emergency treatment. Luckily, the man suffered only a soft tissue injury.

Quoc told the local police that he and his three friends arrived in Vietnam for a tour several days ago and they had no conflict with anyone here.

District 1 police officers are coordinating with their counterparts from the city police force to hunt the attackers and investigate the case.
