A range of cultural activities are taking place in the northwestern province of Dien Bien during the Dien Bien provincial culture and tourism week to mark the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory.
Activities include a painting exhibition, a cooking contest, a traditional costume show, a street parade and a seminar on promoting tourism in Dien Bien province.
On March 13, a special art programme took place at province’s square to start the week. Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Mua A Son said that the event aims to promote the area as a tourist destination.
On the same day, a seminar was also held in the province. Participants discussed the need to preserve historical sites while serving the demand of tourists. They also proposed the organisation of festivals to attract more tourists from countries such as Thailand, Laos and Myanmar that have people related to the Thai minority in Dien Bien’s Muong Then. They also suggested the introduction of more diverse traditional goods and souvenirs.
A photo exhibition about Dien Bien Phu was organized, featuring its stunning topography and charming villages. Accordingly, 200 rare documents about the Dien Bien Phu victory are on display. Concluding the exhibition, the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts will present the Dien Bien provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism 120 photos about the beauty of nature and people in northwestern Vietnam in general and Dien Bien in particular, contributing to diversifying exhibit content at the provincial museum.
