Commonly known as the Farm Bill, the act will regulate production, package and export of Vietnamese catfish, tra fish and basa fish. The fish will be strictly regulated to ensure quality is comparable to products made in the US.

The act may negatively impact Vietnam’s aquatic farming and processing as well decrease American consumption, said Spokesman of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Hai Binh at a press conference.

Fish inspection under the new act should follow international standards and should not create economic barriers, said Mr. Binh.
