Nhan Dan Online – Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) have contributed greatly to the nation’s achievements, forming an indispensable part of the national great unity bloc, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan said today.
VFF President Nhan was speaking at a meeting with over 400 OVs in Ho Chi Minh City on February 15 in celebration of Lunar New Year 2014.
The VFF president praised the achievements by compatriots living and working abroad and affirmed that they have helped boost national socio-economic development with remittances of over US$11 billion in 2013.
OVs are part of the country’s intellectual resources and are important to the nation’s economy, Nhan said, urging OV communities to fulfill their tasks as economic, scientific and technological pillars and cultural ambassadors to Vietnam in their host countries.
He said he hopes that OVs will continue to preserve Vietnamese identity, customs, and promote the studious, hardworking, and creative values of the people abroad, to build good sentiment among international friends towards Vietnam.
Vietnam has maintained political stability and is making gains in socio-economic development, Nhan said, adding that the country is in the process of international economic integration, which creates many opportunities for co-operation with both international investors and OV entrepreneurs who want to invest in Vietnam.
On the occasion of Lunar New Year, the VFF president wished OVs who returned to the home country a year of health, happiness, and success.
