At the ceremony (VGP)
Nhan Dan – Tay Ninh town was yesterday officially upgraded to city status, with the Government’s resolution announced at a ceremony held by the southern province of Tay Ninh.
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai spoke highly of the province’s efforts in socio-economic development, improving people’s living standards and reducing poverty.
Deputy PM Hai asked the Party, government and people of Tay Ninh city to continue harnessing the city’s potential in order to fulfill all assigned tasks, making further contributions to the provincial socio-economic development.
Over the past years, the town, now a city, has always been considered the political, economic, cultural, education, science-technology, security and defence centre of Tay Ninh province, and plays a strategic role in the development of the province.
The production value of the city has recorded an increase of over 15.5% per year. The economic structure has also shifted in a positive direction. By sector, trade-service accounts for 57%; industry-construction, 38%; and agro-forestry-fishery services, 5%. Average income per capita per year reached over US$2,100.
