Quang Ninh provincial leader works with JICA on environmental protection On February 18, Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee, worked with Yamamoto Kenichi, Deputy Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam, on the project to protect the environment in Ha Long city.

During the working meeting, representatives from the Ha Long city People’s Committee proposed the investment into a sub-project on water, sewerage and waste water treatment which belongs to an environmental protection project in the city. The sub-project’s purpose was to protect the environment in Ha Long bay from being polluted by waste water, reduce flooding in urban areas, and increase the awareness of the community about protecting the environment, creating conditions for sustainable socio-economic development. At present, Ha Long city has made adequate preparations for carrying out the sub-project.

Mr Nguyen Van Thanh, stressed that the province followed green and sustainable growth development; therefore, dealing with environmental pollution demanded special attention. He suggested that JICA report the Ha Long city environmental protection project to the Japanese Government so that the project could receive the official development assistance fund in the first phase of 2014.

Yamamoto Kenichi, praised environmental protection efforts of the province, committing to report the project to the Japanese Government for ODA funding./.
