Lieutenant General Cao Ngoc Oanh, said that inmates at prisons and re-education camps across the country are banned from using phones.
According to Kien, the re-education camp inmates have been ordered to delete all photos and content related to the camp from their Facebook and are being questioned on how and why they brought phones into the area.
A Facebook user named Hung Loc, apparently one of the partying inmates, had previously posted many photos of a party held by a group of young men in a detention room at the Thai Ha re-education camp.
In the photos, the young men with many tattoos on their bodies were having a feast with beef, chickens, and vegetables among others on a day close to the Lunar New Year of the Horse.
Kien said students at the camp are allowed to gather and have feasts during Tet festival. They are also permitted to receive food supply from their families and the food ration for each student is raised 5 times during the holiday.
The Thanh Ha re-education camp was established to re-educate people with no formal charges but posing dangers to society. Inmates here are offered education and vocational training so that they can integrate into the community after being released.
