27-million-USD climate change resilience project kicks off The US Agency for International Development (USAID) collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Long An People’s Committee kicks off the “Vietnam Forests and Deltas” project.

The project will be carried out in 4 provinces including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Nam Dinh and Long An with the total budget of 27 million USD comprised of 26.5 milllion USD ODA capital and 795,000 USD Vietnam’s counterpart capital.

The project is to enhance climate change resilience planning and action from community to national level.

Its main objective is to address long-term climate change risks and gender vulnerabilities in both forest and delta landscape.

The project helps support land-use practices which maintain forest resources and enhance environmental services, increase environment services and build climate-resilient livelihood in deltas.

According to Mr. Joakim Baker, USAID Vietnam Mission Director, USAID hopes to help Long An authority and people as well as companies adapting their business and production approach to climate change and assist farmers in rice planting methods so that Long An remains the top rice-producing province.

In addition, USAID supports land-use and freshwater resources management practices in order to cope with flood and rising tide.
