Vietnam’s Southern Airports Services Company (SASCO) re-launched two duty-free shops in Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s immigration area last week after being closed since July 2009.

Travellers can drop by the two shops after stopping at baggage claim and before getting to customs. Alcohol, cigarettes, cakes, candies and other items are available. The shops plan to expand to selling perfume and cosmetic in the near future.

Each traveller is allowed to carry 1.5 litres of alcohol over 22 per cent, 2 litres under 22 per cent, or 3 litres of wine or beer, and 400 cigarettes. Passengers can also buy other items tax-free under $238; once they go over this amount they are subject to normal consumption taxes.

While these two shops servicing incoming flights were closed previously, others for outgoing fliers have been consistently open.
