SGGP Reporter Wins First-Press Prize
Sai Gon Giai Phong reporter Duong Tan Ba received the first-place prize on January 16 for the Press Article on Science and Technology 2013 Competition.
The winning submissions by Duong Tan Ba were “HCMC Microchip Program Paves Way for New Values” and the television program “Inventors” of Vietnam Television.
The competition aims at honoring exceptional science and technology journalists. It is meant to raise awareness of a booming science industry in a developing period for the country.
The subjects of the entries were new developments in the science and technology field, honorary scientists, scientific achievements and modern scientific application.
Out of 822 entries, 23 were given prizes including a first-place, a second-place, two third-place prizes and two encouragement prizes for print and television news. One second-place, two third-place and two encouragement prizes were awarded for other news genres including radio and electronic newspaper.
First-place prize received VND25 million (US$1,185), second-place price received VND12 million (US$569), third-place received VND7 million (US$333) and encouragement winners received VND3 million (US$142). All winners also received certificates of merit and symbols of Press Prize.
The award was launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Member of National Assembly, Phan Xuan Dung, and Science Minister, Nguyen Quan, presented the prizes in Hanoi. This is the second year the ministry has held the competition.
Reporters Duong Tan Ba and Nguyen Tuong Han also won an encouragement prize with their submission “Science and Technology Have Important Role in Society”.
