Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Japan
Speaking in a press conference, Lavrov verified that President Putin has accepted the Japanese Prime Minister’s invitation to visit the country, but the date is yet to be finalized.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe invited Putin to visit Japan in 2014 while on a trip to Moscow last April, during which they agreed to revive talks on resolving the dispute over a chain of islands known in Russiaas the Southern Kuriles and in Japan as the Northern Territories.

On January 21, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin has agreed to visit Japan soon.
Speaking in a press conference, Lavrov verified that President Putin has accepted the Japanese Prime Minister’s invitation to visit the country, but the date is yet to be finalized.

Lavrov said talks between the two leaders during President Putin’s visit to Japan, will create opportunities for the two governments to set a direction for their future work. He admitted that the negotiations for the conclusion of a bilateral peace treaty will be tough and sensitive.
As scheduled, Prime Minister Abe will travel to Russia next month to attend the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics on February 7./.
