Hanoi consumer prices rise by 0.7% in January

Food and transport costs posted the steepest increases, at 1.29% and 1.19% respectively, while postal service and telecommunications costs remained the same.


Transport costs rose in January as December’s petrol price hike began to produce effects.


Clothing and footwear prices went up by 0.99% in January as consumers increased spending on items to stave off the cold weather.


In the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City, consumer prices in January rose by a modest 0.4% from the previous month due to weak demand.


Utility and transport costs increased by 1.2% and 1.24% respectively, the largest increases among the 11 groups of commodities used to calculate the CPI; while food and eating out rose only slightly, by 0.16% and 0.04%.
