Action plan on water management issued

VGP – The PM has ratified a national action plan on management and protection of water resources in the 2014-2020 period.

The action plan targets to manage, tap, and protect water resources in a comprehensive and efficient way; ensure national water security; contribute to sustainable growth, environmental protection, social welfare, national defense and response to climate change, sea level rise and water degradation.

Under the plan, 100% of large rivers will be installed with automatic and online observation and supervision systems. All big water reservoirs will be connected by a mechanism that allows the control of levels of pollution and water exhaustion.

The action plan stipulates nine tasks on (1) making policies, laws and strategies on water resources; (2) proactively responding to climate change and sea level rise; (3) planning and investigating water resources; (4) actively controlling and minimizing pollution and water degradation; (5)harmonizing and saving water resources; (6) applying science and technology; (7) strengthening international cooperation; (8) raising awareness of management and protection of water resources; and (9) perfecting the staff on water management.

In 2014-2020, the action plan would focus on key projects such as planning of water resources; investigation, assessment and mapping of water resources in valleys and water-scarce regions, establishment of protective corridor for water protection and improvement of polluted rivers and reservoirs in urban areas./.
