Hoi An International Food Festival kicks off

The chefs are members of the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS) and hail from numerous countries including Germany, Sweden, Russia, Portugal, Greece, the US, Malaysia, India, and Vietnam. Among of them are Chef David Sosson from France; Wan-Chung or Bill Sy as known to some, who served as the Culinary Director of Culinary Arts and Management at the Art Institute for the last twenty years; and Mauricio Armendáris Carrasco, Director of the Organization of Gastronomic Associations of the Americas and the Caribbean.

The only representative of Vietnam participating in the festival is Trinh Diem Vy, who is regarded as the culinary soul of Hoi An for the past 20 years. He will directly exchange, show, guide, and introduce foods of Vietnam, and Hoi An cuisine with 12 international chefs.

They will cook many delicious dishes from the available local ingredients found in Hoi An and every night one of the chefs will introduce a typical dish at the ‘Big dish’ area.

The event aims to promote the image of the culture and tourism in the ancient city, to both domestic and foreign visitors. The festival will also offer an opportunity for local chefs to gain experiences from leading global culinary experts.

A highlight of the festival is Thomas Gugler, President of the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS), officially awarding a certificate of honour to recognize Hoi An as the Food Capital of Vietnam.
