Nhan Dan Online – The winners of the poster contest commemorating the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954) and the 55th anniversary of the Truong Son Trail opening were honoured at an awards ceremony in Hanoi this morning.

Two first place, four second place, three third place and nine consolation prizes were presented to the most outstanding entries. Dinh Thi Thu Huong from Hanoi and Pham Anh Dung from Hung Yen received the first prizes worth VND10 million each.

Launched in April 2013, the contest received 886 posters created by 552 professional and amateur individuals and collectives from 45 provinces and cities.

The entries highlight the historical significance of the Dien Bien Phu victory and show the artists’ gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives along the Ho Chi Minh Trail for national independence and freedom.

On the occasion, the Grassroots Culture Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has co-ordinated with the Provincial Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Son La to showcase large posters on the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory.

Large posters on the 55th anniversary of Truong Son Trail will be displayed in Binh Phuoc, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Nghe An, Quang Nam and Quang Tri provinces.

The contest is intended to encourage the people and the army to strive to complete socio-economic development tasks in 2014 and to speed up the country’s industrialisation and modernisation.
