<p>Malaysian budget airline AirAsia said it will develop a low-cost carrier in Vietnam by teaming up with local businesses to catch up with the country’s travel boom.</p>
<p>AirAsia, the region’s biggest budget airline, has signed an agreement with Hanoi-based Gumin Co, Hai Au Aviation and Tran Trong Kien to form the venture, the airline said in a statement filed Friday to Malaysia’s stock exchange. Kien runs the two Vietnamese businesses, <em>Bloomberg</em> said.</p>
<p>The venture, expected to start flying in early 2018, will need investments of VND1 trillion ($44 million), with AirAsia contributing 30 percent and Gumin holding around 70 percent, the statement said.</p>
<p>Vietnam’s aviation market grew 29 percent in 2016 with passengers reaching 52.2 million, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said. Low-cost carriers served 55 percent of passengers on domestic trips last year, it said.</p>
<p>“There is great potential for growth in Vietnam,” AirAsia said in the statement, citing the country’s fast-growing economy, a sizable population, and its ranking as Southeast Asia’s fifth largest aviation market after Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, apart from being the world’s fastest growing aviation market in 2015-2016.</p>
<p><em>Bloomberg</em> said Air Asia CEO Tony Fernandes, who seeks to build a pan-Asian budget airline, has interest in Vietnam as its growth in passenger traffic was triple the pace in other Southeast Asian nations.</p>
<p>But Brendan Sobie, Singapore-based chief analyst at CAPA Center for Aviation, forecast “huge challenges” for AirAsia as the market in Vietnam is now well served by two low-cost carriers VietJet and Jetstar Pacific. “AirAsia is very late to the party,” he told <em>Bloomberg</em>.</p>
<p>“The rate of growth will likely slow in the coming years as the market is now more mature,” he said.</p>
<p>AirAsia has established affiliates in Indonesia, Thailand, India and Japan, and has ordered hundreds of planes worth billions of dollars to meet its growth ambitions, <em>Bloomberg</em> said.</p>

<div><i>The Hanoitimes</i> – During the Vietnam International Travel Mart 2017 (VITM 2017), which is scheduled for April 6-9, over 45,000 promotional air fares and more than 15,000 tours with special discounts will be available.</div>

<div>The Vietnam International Travel Mart 2017 (VITM 2017) will be held from April 6-9 at Hanoi’s Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labour Cultural Palace.<br />
The VITM 2017, themed “Hanoi-the destination of Vietnam in 2017”, is expected to feature about 450 booths for 652 enterprises and tourism management and promotion agencies from 43 cities and provinces across the country and 25 other countries and territories. The fair is expected to attract about 60,000 visitors.<br />
Hanoi ranks among the world’s most attractive and interesting cities. Its placid air gives it a gracious, almost regal flavour, underscored by a rich history that traces back more than a thousand years, with a fascinating heritage on display in well-preserved, centuries-old architecture.<br />
One of the highlights of VITM 2017 is an International Street Food Festival, which is being organised for the first time. The festival will see the participations of tens of famous domestic and foreign chefs. The festival will offer good opportunity to promote Vietnamese street food while bringing street food of foreign countries closer to Vietnamese people.<br />

<p>Particularly, during the upcoming VITM 2017, Vietnam will lure more US tourists in the time ahead as the Vietnam Travel Association and the US Travel Association are set to ink a cooperation agreement.<br />
Under the deal, travel to the American country will be also made easier for Vietnamese people.<br />
Some 15 US travel agents will join other tourism companies from 24 countries and territories to exchange tourism information during the event.<br />
It said that with significant changes in tourism in recent year, Hanoi has become the country’s tourism centre and a leading destination in the region.<br />
Hanoi’s images and tourism products will be introduced to visitors during the event.<br />
Besides, the Vietnam National Tourism Association will officially inaugurate a centre for Vietnamese cuisine study, preservation and development on April 7.<br />
At the travel mart, over 45,000 promotional air fares and more than 15,000 tours with special discounts will be available.<br />
In addition, cultural and art performances have been prepared meticulously, especially the practice of the Vietnamese worship of Mother Goddesses, which was recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO last October.<br />
In addition to activities in destination presentation and tourism stimulation from local exhibitors, VITM 2017 will also organise contests, traditional arts performances, conferences and workshops.<br />
First held in 2013, this year’s event is the fifth and is considered Vietnam’s premier professional tourism event and one of the largest travel shows in the region.</p>

<div><i>The Hanoitimes</i> – Hanoitimes – Having a high expectation for promoting precious values of the Capital of 1000 years of history, in 2016, Hanoi tourism will focus on attracting and diversifying investment resources to develop and enhance particular product quality with new tourism products introduced to draw more attention from tourists.</div>
<div>
<div><strong>The highlight of economic growth</strong><br />
Being the most important socio-economic, cultural, politic centre of Vietnam, Hanoi is both the major centre of tourism and the hub of tourist transportation and distribution across the whole country and region. In Strategy on Hanoi Tourism Development until 2020, with a vision to 2030, Hanoi People’s Committee committed their striving for developing the city’s tourism into a key economic sector. To achieve this goal, many Instructions, Programs, Development Plans have been implemented on the municipal scale with joint efforts from all sectors at all levels and tourism human resource in recent years.</div>
<div><img alt="" src="http://bit.ly/2nGnjT6" /></div>
<div>In particular, state management in tourism has marked its turning point with establishment of the Hanoi Department of Tourism on September 21<sup>st</sup>, 2015. Shortly after going into operation, the Department acted as a counsellor to Hanoi People’s Committee in a great success of program “2015 Meeting with Representatives of Companies and Organizations in Tourism”. Afterwards, the Department organized many specialized roundtables such as ‘Enhance the quality and efficiency of travel activities and accommodation establishments’; ‘Develop tourism in association with cultural-historical museums and relics’; ‘Develop tourism in association with mass media’; and ‘Develop tourism on Hanoi traditional craft villages’. Noticeably, from December 30<sup>th</sup> 2015 to January 4<sup>th</sup> 2016, under the direction of the Department, an attractive cultural-tourist program called “2015 Memory of Hanoi’ was held for locals and tourists to enjoy the meaningful transition moment when an old year 2015 ended and a new year 2016 started in Hanoi.<br />
With abovementioned efforts, the Capital’s tourism has achieved a proud result and become ‘the highlight of economic growth’ with higher indicators than previous year.<br />
In 2015, although foreign tourists to Vietnam fell by 2% compared with the same period in 2014, those to Hanoi was estimated at 3.4 million (up by 12%) while domestic tourists was estimated at 16.4 million (up by 6%). The total number of visitors to Hanoi was estimated to increase by 7% compared with that of 2014. The total revenue of tourism was estimated at 55.5 billion VND, up by 11.4% over last year. At the same time, the image and position of Hanoi was being increasingly enhanced in the eyes of international tourists and mass media. Smart Travel, the most prestigious online travel magazine in Asia, has named Hanoi one of ten-most-fascinating destinations in recent years. Moreover, the famous Trip Advisor also revealed Hanoi was the world’s fourth-most-attractive destination in 2015.<br />
<strong>Development of new tourism products</strong><br />
However, Hanoi tourism has many shortcomings in management and business, thereby, not yet making the most of its potentialities and inherent strengths. One of main causes is that Hanoi’s tourism products do not receive proper investment especially into cultural heritage tour, traditional village tour, Old Quarter tour. This is also the challenge and mission that the Hanoi Department of Tourism has to face in 2016 and incoming years. In the other hand, 2016 is the first year to implement Communist Party’s Resolution at all levels and 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2016-2020). Therefore, from the beginning of the year, Hanoi needs to make a great attempt with slogan ‘All for tourists to Hanoi Capital city’ associated with implementation of 4 focal missions.<br />
Firstly, the Department of Tourism will consult Hanoi People’s Committee to get approval from the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee (term 2015-2020) about issuing the Decision on Comprehensive Tourism Development until 2020; developing ‘Goal for Tourism Development’ program for the 2016-2020 period; Next, Hanoi continues to implement Plan 162/KH-UBND dated October 8<sup>th</sup> 2015 from Hanoi People’s Committee. It described the implementation of Decision 92/NQ-CP dated December 8<sup>th</sup> 2014, approved by the Government, on solutions to promote Vietnam tourism development in new era.<br />
Consequently, tourism will be provided with a favorable environment to make a breakthrough in the number of tourists, total revenue of tourism as well as proportion in GDP of the city. In addition, tourism focuses on attracting and diversifying investment resources to enhance tourism product quality based on heritages of 1000 years of history. Meanwhile, new tourism products are introduced to develop particular tourism products in the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake; to promote historical, architectural values of cultural heritages in the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. It is necessary to upgrade cultural heritages in Hanoi; to hold some art performances in Hanoi theaters and the Old Quarter; to innovate Ba Vi – Suoi Hai complex into a national tourist centre.<br />
In 2016, the Hanoi Department of Tourism actively co-operated with the Police Department and People’s Committee of all districts, wards, towns in order to raise awareness of Hanoi people living in tourist attractions to lead a civilized lifestyle and show hospitality to tourists. Besides, the Department also effectively applied tourist information newsstands and installed a hotline for customer services. To promote international tourism, Hanoi actively attended ASEAN Tourism Forum 2016 of Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia-Pacific Cities (TPO), Council for Promoting Tourism in Asia (CPTA), International Travel and Tourism Expo in US, UK, Beijing, and World Travel Market (WTM). The Department decides to organize ‘2016 Memory of Hanoi’, Ao Dai Festival and many other activities.<br />
We strongly believe that our great attempt with joint efforts of local enterprises, organizations and residents, Hanoi will definitely become a friendly, attractive, high-level destination regionally, nationwide and worldwide.</div>

<p>HCM CITY- Hundreds of discounted tours have been sold at the HCM City Tourism Fair, which wrapped up on Sunday, with bookings for international tours accounting for more than 70 per cent of sales, according to tour operators.</p>
<p>A representative from TransViet Travel said 80 per cent of customers booked international tours, with prices starting at VNĐ9 million (US$395), at the company’s booth on the first day of the four-day fair.</p>
<p>Tours to Japan and South Korea accounted for 50 per cent of bookings, followed by China, Taiwan and other destinations in Southeast Asia.</p>
<p>Around 800 visitors booked tours at Saigontourist on the first day of the event.</p>
<p>Domestic tours with discounts of up to 50 per cent were also fully booked on the first day.</p>
<p>Trần Thị Kim Huyền, 57, from Bình Tân District bought a three-day tour to Phú Quốc Island at Saigontourist for two people at a cost of VNĐ2.7 million (US$118), down from the normal price of VNĐ5.6 million (US$245).</p>
<p>“It’s a really good price,” she said.</p>
<p>Besides the Phú Quốc tour, she is also looking for deals to China.</p>
<p>“My husband and I haven’t yet travelled abroad so we want to buy an international tour at a reasonable price,” Huyền said.</p>
<p>Bến Thành Tourist sold more than 100 tours on the first day. Only 20-30 per cent of bookings were for domestic tours to Phú Quốc, Đà Nẵng and Hạ Long.</p>
<p>Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Mai, marketing and communications manager at Bến Thành Tourist, said the company offered discounts and promotions valued at VNĐ350 million (US$15,350) at the fair.</p>
<p>Tours to Japan for four to five days cost only VNĐ30 million (US$1,300), much lower than normal prices, Mai said.</p>
<p>Almost all international tours saw prices fall by 10-20 per cent compared to five years ago, she said.</p>
<p>Prices of international tours are considered “competitive” compared to domestic tours.</p>
<p>Most tour operators attributed the slump in sales of domestic tours to rising prices, particularly during public holidays.</p>
<p>The annual event held by the HCM City’s Department of Tourism attracted more than 70 tour operators, hotels, restaurants, airlines and provincial tourism agencies with 180 booths.</p>
<p>It aimed to create opportunities for local people to access promotion programmes in leisure travel as well as stimulate tourism demand.</p>

<p>The ASEAN-Korea Culture and Tourism Promotion Workshop was organised by the ASEAN-Korea Centre in cooperation with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.<br />
The workshop aimed to increase the competitiveness of the Vietnamese tourism sector by providing knowledge about Korean culture. The goal is to improve the quality of services given to South Korean tourists.<br />
“The workshop is a platform for travel agents and tourism enterprises from the two countries to further strengthen tourism cooperation,” said La Quoc Khanh, deputy director of the city’s Tourism Department.<br />
In the first five months of the year, HCM City welcomed more than 123,200 Korean visitors, a year-on-year increase of 16%, Khanh said.<br />
Over the period, the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting the Republic of Korea rose by 7.5% to nearly 14,500.</p>

<p>Since its inception in 2009, the ASEAN-Korea Centre has implemented various cultural and tourism exchanges programmes, such as the ASEAN Culture and Tourism Fair, ASEAN-Korea Tourism Development Workshop and ASEAN-Korea Youth Network, Kim Young-sun, the centre’s Secretary General, said.<br />
In the next six months, the centre plans to introduce tourism attractions in Viet Nam through several programmes, including the ASEAN Culture and Tourism Fair and ASEAN Road Show.<br />
Last year, the number of two-way visitors reached nearly one million, including 833,000 visits to Viet Nam and 142,000 visits to the Republic of Korea.<br />
The ASEAN-Korea Culture and Tourism Promotion Workshop has been implemented since 2009 to promote tourism exchanges between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea.<br />
This year, the workshop was held in Cambodia in May, and after Vietnam, it will be held in Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.</p>
