Last year, Da Nang city welcomed 100 cruise liners docking at Tien Sa port with 145,000 tourists, up 66% compared to 2017. This March, the city is expected to accommodate 14 cruise ships with more than 19,000 passengers.
Most cruise liners docks in the central city for only a short time and leave after 4-8 hours of sightseeing tour of popular tourist attractions such as Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains), Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture and Son Tra peninsula.
Nguyen Xuan Binh, deputy director of the city’s department of tourism said several world’s leading cruise liners have docked in Da Nang, which has accelerated the development of cruise-based tourism.
However, the city lacks special ports and stations for sea travelers to properly perform their entry and exit procedures.
Recently, Da Nang has been permitted by the government to develop Tien Sa into a specialized port in the future.
He noted that the department will advise the local authorities on the development of infrastructure, logistic services, entertainment and shopping activities to meet the sea travelers’ growing demand.
