The agency required that the Quang Ninh Port Authority assume the prime responsibility and coordinate with the relevant transport companies and other concerned parties to consider the size and draft of the vessels, while checking the actual conditions at the wharf and inspecting the pertinent regulations for licensing ships and boats operating at Hon Gai International Passenger Port, the first of its kind in Vietnam.
The Port Authority of Vietnam also requested the port operator, Ha Long Sun Co., Ltd., to coordinate with consultancy and specialised agencies to choose suitable vessels to operate at the port an ensure the stability and safety of the port and boarding ships.
The Hon Gai Passenger Terminal, invested in by Sun Group, in the form of a public-private partnership, is equipped with modern technologies and is capable of welcoming the most luxurious cruise ships in the world. It is capable of receiving two large passenger ships of up to 225,000 GT, carrying up to 6,500 passengers each, at once.
Construction of the VND1 trillion port began in November 2017, aiming to ease the overload for Tuan Chau Passenger Terminal and improve Ha Long’s tourist service quality.
