What are the achievements of the National Tourism Year 2018-Ha Long-Quang Ninh?
The National Tourism Year 2018 – Ha Long-Quang Ninh includes 56 programs and events in Quang Ninh Province and 42 in 14 other provinces and cities nationwide.
Major events in Quang Ninh during the first six months of the year include the opening ceremony for the National Tourism Year, the Ha Long Carnival, the Gold Flower Tea Festival in Binh Lieu District, the Tien Cong Festival in Quang Yen Town, and the Yen Tu Festival in Uong Bi City. Other events include the Cua Ong Temple Festival in Cam Pha City, Yen Tu Cherry and Yellow Apricot Festival in Uong Bi City, One-Commune-One-Product (OCOP) Trade Fair in Ha Long City, and Tuan Chau International Female Beach Volleyball Tournament in Ha Long.
The events helped attract 10.7 million visitors to the province in the first 10 months of the year, a 25 percent increase from a year ago, including more than four million foreign visitors. Tourism revenues exceeded VND19 trillion, a 28 percent increase. The 2018 figures are expected to increase to more than 12 million visitors (a 25 percent increase) and over five million foreign visitors (a 22 percent increase) against last year.
Quang Ninh is likened to a mini Vietnam with great potential and special cultural value. What do you think is required to develop its cultural and natural heritage during the National Tourism Year 2018?
Quang Ninh plans to implement three strategies related to renewing its growth model, restructuring the economy, developing in a sustainable manner, and to shift from brown to green development.
The province intends to grow by restructuring its economy, progressively reducing reliance on non-sustainable factors and step-by-step increasing sustainable factors based on its geographical and political position, the knowledge-based economy, science and technology, consumption, investment, export, landscape, culture, history and human intellect.
One of Quang Ninh’s key measures to develop tourism is to preserve Ha Long Bay, which is a world heritage site, Bai Tu Long Bay, relic sites in Yen Tu, Tran Dynasty remains, the Bach Dang historical site, plus more than 600 other natural and relic sites in the province, which have been recognized by the Vietnamese government.
Meanwhile, the province will make the most of tourism engines in areas such as Dong Trieu, Uong Bi, Ha Long, Van Don, Co To and Mong Cai; improve material facilities at tourism sites; invest in tourism human resources in order to build the capacity of local communities in tourism development; and help local people run and benefit from tourism business.
