HCM City eyes on India as potential tourism market <div> <div> <div>At the May meeting on socio-economic issues of the municipal People’s Committee on May 30, Director of the department Bui Ta Hoang Vu said his agency had been working with several airlines to boost Vietnamese images to India. He noted that while 1.6 million Indians travelled to Thailand in 2017, only 170,000 visited Vietnam.</div> <div>The low-cost airline Vietjet Air is scheduled to open direct flights between HCM City and India this September.</div> <div>The Tourism Department has developed products designed for this market and held some tourism promotion activities in the country.</div> <div>Mr. Vu added that the department has also asked local restaurants to design dishes specifically for Indian guests.</div> <div>It was reported at the meeting that 566,390 foreign tourists arrived in the city in May, up 37 percent year on year. Revenues from tourism came to around 9.3 trillion VND (over 406 million USD), up 3.03 percent.</div> <div>For the January-May period, the total number of foreign arrivals was 3.18 million, a 32 percent increase, while tourism revenues were estimated at 51.65 trillion VND, up 14.8 percent.</div> <div>A recent survey jointly conducted by the Tourism Department and the municipal Statistics Office showed tourists both domestic and foreign stayed for an average 5 days in the city and spent around 145 USD a day, which showed a reduction in stay duration compared to a survey of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration in 2013 but the spending remained the same.</div> <div>Chairman of the city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong stressed that tourism has been defined as a spearhead economic sector of the city. (Photo: VNA)<br /></span></div> <p><strong>Quang Ninh (VNA)</strong> – Tourist arrivals to the northern province of Quang Ninh hit 6.6 million in the first five months of 2018, an increase of 26 percent from the same period last year.</p> <p>Of the number, 2.17 million were foreigners, up 12 percent year on year.</p> <p>The province’s January-May revenue from tourism exceeded 11 trillion VND (484 million USD), up 32 percent year on year.</p> <p>In May, Quang Ninh hosted a series of tourism activities as part of the National Tourism Year 2018 – Ha Long – Quang Ninh, including Miss Ha Long 2018, art programme “Hello Ha Long 2018” and the cultural, sports and tourism week in Co To island.</p> <p>A number of cultural and entertainment events also took place in Quan Lan and Minh Chau Islands alongside a cross-country cycling tour from Sa Vi Cape in Mong Cai, Quang Ninh to the southernmost province of Ca Mau, a street festival and a tennis tournament in Mong Cai.</p> <p>The province has stepped up communications campaigns to promote the National Tourism Year 2018 in Ha Long, Quang Ninh and taken actions to improve services of local travel agencies and tour guides.</p> <p>Quang Ninh has a coastline of more than 250 kilometres and some 2,000 islets, two-thirds of the total in Vietnam. The spectacular stretch of coast connects the UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay with majestic natural scenery, Bai Tu Long Bay, Van Don and Co To islands and Tra Co beach with Cat Ba National Park in the northern port city of Hai Phong.</p> <p>This year, Quang Ninh expects to welcome 12 million visitors, including five million foreigners to earn 22 trillion VND (968 million USD) in revenue. The roads leading to the hamlet were tortuous and steep and the locals lived below the poverty line. Nguyen Van Vi, a visitor from Hanoi, said, “The culture in Ten hamlet is very special. Before the visit, we knew very little about the customs of the Mong people. Here I’ve learned lots of very interesting things.”</p> <p>Visitors to Ten hamlet enjoy listening to the panpipe, a typical part of the local culture.</p> <p>Pham Quang Linh, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dong Hy district, said, “The Mong ethnic heritage needs to be preserved. We intend to teach the younger generation our panpipe melodies so they can preserve this heritage.”</p> <p>Another attraction of Ten hamlet is its food. After tasting the food, all of them agree that the dishes are delicious,” Mung said.</p> <p>During their festival, the locals play folk games like top spinning and nightingale fighting.</p> <p>The festival is seen as a way to improve living conditions in these mountain villages.</p> <p>Linh said Dong Hy district has more than 500 Mong families with more than 2,700 people who are determined to preserve their traditional culture.</p> <p>“Over the years, we have changed the face of Dong Hy district and Van Lang commune. Roads have been built that lead directly to the hamlet. (Photo: VNA)<br /></span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – The New York-based travel site Thrillist has included Cat Co 2 beach on Cat Ba island, northern Hai Phong city, and Thom beach on Phu Quoc island, southern Kien Giang province, on its list of the best seaside getaways in Vietnam.</p> <p>Situated 45km to the east of Hai Phong, Cat Ba boasts crystal-clear waters, jungles and ancient fishing villages, but has managed to keep a relatively low profile despite being just south of the world-famous Ha Long Bay.</p> <p>The travel site described Cat Co 2 as “the most relaxed of Cat Ba’s three beaches” and a place where travellers can take in a panoramic view of the amazing island surrounded by spectacular limestone mountains.</p> <p>It described Thom beach on Phu Quoc island as “Nested in the forest that dominates this island, Thom beach is too far off the beaten track for coach tourists but brings in enough intrepid backpackers to sustain the local snack shacks and their surprisingly delicious homebrewed beer.”</p> <p>Cat Ba island is set to become an eco-smart island and a national tourism site, according to Hai Phong’s tourism development plan period 2017-2020.</p> <p>Located 150 kilometres from Hanoi, Cat Ba consists of 366 large and small islands, beaches and limestone mountains. In 2004, Cat Ba island was recognised by the UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve</p> <p>Meanwhile, Phu Quoc, 40km west of southern Kien Giang province, is dubbed the “pearl” island.</p> <p>Phu Quoc features a monsoon tropical climate. It has two seasons, the dry season from November to April and the rainy season from May to October. The average temperature is 28 degrees Celsius, allowing visitors to enjoy the island’s beauty at any time of the year.</p> <p>The Phu Quoc National Park is one of the most attractive places in the district. It is home to 929 plant species, of which 42 are listed in the Vietnamese and world red books of endangered species. Conference introduces RoK tourism in Nghe An <div> <div><span>Illustrative image (Source: GMA Network)</span></div> <p><strong>Nghe An (VNA)</strong> – A conference was held in the central province of Nghe An on May 18 to introduce the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s tourism and air routes to the RoK, drawing representatives of over 40 travel firms from Nghe and neighbouring Ha Tinh province.</p> <p>The event, jointly held by the RoK Tourism Organisation in Vietnam and the Department of Tourism of the central province of Nghe An, aimed to provide information of diverse tourism services and products suitable to the demand of local customers.</p> <p>In the recent two years, thousands of Nghe An tourists have chosen the RoK to travel. New national tourism site to take shape in Ha Nam <div> <div><span>The master plan of Tam Chuc national tourism site (Source: cafef.vn)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA) –</strong> The Tam Chuc national tourism site, together with its adjacent tourism clusters, is expected to form an attractive tourism centre of the Red River Delta, the north-east coastal region and the nation at large by 2030 under a master plan recently approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.</p> <p>The tourism site is located in Ba Sao town and Vong, Khuyen Cong and Kha Phong villages of Kha Phong commune, Kim Bang district, the Red River Delta province of Ha Nam, with its core area covering 4,000 hectares.</p> <p>According to the master plan, by 2025, Tam Chuc will basically meet criteria set for a national tourism area. By 2030, it will become a national tourism area with comprehensive infrastructure facilities and high-quality products, contributing to local socio-economic development.</p> <p>It is expected to welcome about 3.7 million visitors by 2025, of whom 470,000 are foreigners. Travel businesses and local residents in the province are offering attractive homestay tours, notable ones being those in Quy Chau District.</p> <div> <p>Located in the western part of Nghe An Province, Quy Chau is inhabited by Thai ethnic people whose tradition is based on rice cultivation and textile and woodwork crafts.</p> <p>Thai women in Hoa Tien Village have been well known for their brocade weaving techniques and skills for many generations.</p> <p>The brocade products were originally made for family needs and as a dowry for brides. The Thai women in Hoa Tien are adept at weaving silk and cotton and using herbs, flowers, leaves, and bark as natural dyes, adding unique value to their products.</p> <p>A variety of activities for every taste awaits visitors to Hoa Tien. Jagli Lena from Switzerland said she participated in many Vietnamese traditional games but loved performing the bamboo dance most. Most foreign visitors to the western part of Nghe An Province choose homestay tours which expose them to first-hand information and experience of local life and culture.</p> <p>Brocade production, watering wheels, and folk games have been well preserved in Hoa Tien. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Deputy Chairman of the Quy Chau District People’s Committee, said many delegations, including foreign visitor groups, come to Hoa Tien both for cultural research and culinary enjoyment. VND250 billion to upgrade Saigon-Nha Trang railway route <div> <div> <p>The Saigon – Nha Trang railway route is 411.2km long with 36 train stations. As per proposal, this project will help improve railway infrastructure by applying a unified regulatory center and active safety systems, reducing the number of concurrent parking stops, thus increasing the railway throughput by 35-40 percent.</p> <p>Consequently, that will save energy and reduce costs of repairing moving parts of trains and railways by 15-20 percent.</p> <p>The project also contributes to ensuring the safety and raising the speed of the train and minimizing the number of accidents owing to preventing the risk of passing red lights, exceeding speed limits, colliding other trains… by using the equipment to protect the train automatically.</p> <p>Furthermore, it also helps to control the entire work of the train drivers, to assist in early notification of trains approaching the crossroads guarded by sentry men to improve safety at negligible expenses.</p> <p>In case it is approved, VNR leaders say, the project is expected to be implemented within 18 months. The total cost of equipment, including installation and technical assistance by experts is about US$ 10.83 million, equivalent to VND 245.6 billion (if German equipment is used) or US$ 11 million (nearly VND 250 billion) if German equipment is not used.</p> <p>The consultant proposed a formula of cooperation in the form of BT (build-transfer), in which investors bear 70% and the Vietnam government invests 30% of the capital. According to local historic documents, in 17th century, Mac Thien Tich, a leader of the region, many times ordered his troops to fight against local pirates, who lived in the area. Rumours say he was strong, was a brilliant swimmer and could dive as well as an otter, rebellious but at the same time, had a kind heart.</p> <p>Once his gang travelled to Thailand, he fell in love with a beautiful woman and took her to Vietnam. Since then, he quit the pirate life. Quang Binh – potential for tourism development <div> <div> <div><span>At the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park (Source: VNA)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Quang Binh (VNA)</strong> – Quang Binh in central Vietnam is well-known for natural landscapes, spiritual tourism destinations and historical relic sites. <p>The province has big advantages to develop cave, forest and sea-based tourism.</p> <p>Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, which was twice recognised as world natural heritage sites by UNESCO in 2003 and 2015, is a paradise for cave explorers.</p> <p>It was listed among the “Top experiences in Vietnam” in 2017 by Lonely Planet – a renowned travel publication.</p> <p>The park contains the oldest karst mountains in Asia, formed approximately 400 million years ago. Riddled with hundreds of extraordinary cave systems and spectacular underground rivers, Phong Nha is a speleologists’ heaven on earth, the site said.</p> <p>“The caves are the region’s absolute highlights, but the above-ground attractions of forest trekking, the area’s war history, and rural mountain biking means it deserves a stay of around three days”, the travel site added.</p> <p>Located in the heart of Phong Nha – Ke Bang Nation Park is Son Doong cave, the largest of its kind in the world recognised by three international organisations, namely Guinness (based in the UK), the Association World Record (based in Hong Kong) and WorldKings (based in the US and India).</p> <p>Son Doong was discovered by a local in 1991. It was first explored in 2009 by the British Cave Research Association and has been open to the public since 2013.</p> <p>The 1,645m-long cave system, which extends through a mountain, was named one of the most captivating caves on earth by National Geographic.</p> <p>Geologists say the cave formed two to five million years ago. It is roughly 6,5km long, 200m high and 150m wide, exceeding the former world record of Deer Cave in Gunung Muli National Park in Malaysia.</p> <p>A luring destination in Quang Binh province in recent years is General Vo Nguyen Giap’s tomb, which is located in Vung Chua – Yen (Swallow) island area in Tho Son hamlet, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district.</p> <p>The road to the tomb has 103 stairs, 103 apricot trees and 103 Ban (Bauhinia) flower trees representing the General’s 103 year olds.</p> <p>Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013) was the first general of Vietnam’s People’s Armed Forces, commander-in-chief of Dien Bien Phu campaign (1954). In 1984, the New Encyclopedia Britannica – one of the most massive encyclopedia in the world – voted General Vo Nguyen Giap as one of the 10 preeminent generals of the world.</p> <p>Vung Chua – Yen island had been chosen by the General as his last resting place. Owning spectacular and pristine natural scenery, Vung Chua area backs to Tho Son mountain and faces East Sea with many islets. General Giap’s tomb is located in Mui Rong (Dragon Cape) reaching to the sea and being opposite to Yen island.</p> <p>With a coastline of 116km dotted with white beaches sloping into the blue sea, Quang Binh holds great potential for developing marine tourism. Nhat Le beach has become a familiar destination for tourists on summer vacations. </p> <p>It was selected as one of the top ten most attractive beaches in Vietnam by the Vietnam Records Organisation (VRO) in 2015. </p> <p>Nhat Le – the unspoiled and tranquil beach with azure, bath-warm water and beautiful stretches of white and creamy sand is definitely the great option for those who are fond of getting some fresh air and falling asleep to the sound of the lapping wave, swimming in the sea and savouring freshly caught seafood.</p> <p>According to the provincial Department of Tourism, Quang Binh welcomed 3.3 million visitors in 2017, up 70.9 percent against the same period last year, including 130,000 international tourists, up 156 percent. National Park draws visitors to Thua Thien – Hue <div> <div> <div><span>Bach Ma Mountain in Thua Thien – Hue province (File Photo)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) –</strong> Bach Ma (White Horse) National Park challenges visitors in stark contrast to the traditionally slow pace of life in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. <p>Located some 50km to the south of the old capital city of Hue, Bach Ma prides itself on offering bold expeditions into the forest.</p> <p>The park is known for its bio-diversity, with more than 1,400 species of fauna and flora spread out across 37,000 hectares and guarded by a mountain peak standing 1,430 metres above sea level.</p> <p>The beauty of lakes and waterfalls along the trail, which attracts avid trekkers, has helped attracted travellers from far and wide to the park.</p> <p>The adventure starts gently at a two-storeyed roundhouse known as Vong Hai Dai, which acts as a viewing point and rest-stop.</p> <p>The trail then winds past five pristine lakes and waterfalls.</p> <p>Three kilometres down, travellers reach the starting point to the first lake. Thua Thien-Hue announces tourism identification logo <div> <div> <div><span>Logo and slogan of Thua Thien – Hue tourism (Source:VNA)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Thua Thien – Hue (VNA)</strong> – The central province of Thua Thien – Hue held a ceremony on May 4 to announce its tourism identification logo. <p>Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Tourism said the logo comprises a corner of Five-Phoenix Pavilion, several spans of Trang Tien bridge, and the external circle as a rising sun.</p> <p>The logo, mostly in purple and red colour, is designed by Nguyen Thien Duc and Nguyen Phu Duc.</p> <p>Tourism is considered a spearhead economy of the province with the tour “Hue – One Destination, Five Heritages”. In the four months this year, Thua Thien – Hue welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors, up 40 percent annually. Of them, over 600,000 were foreigners, up 70 percent.</p> <p>In particular, over 400,000 arrived in the province during the freshly concluded Hue Festival 2018, half of them were foreigners.</p> <p>This year, the provincial tourism sector strives to serve 4 – 4.2 million tourists, marking a 10-12 percent increase year-on-year, 40 – 45 percent of them were foreigners. They included more than 5,400 foreigners, rising by some 34 percent year on year, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.</p> <p>Most of the vacationers chose such islands as Phu Quoc, Lai Son, An Son, Nam Du, Hon Nghe and Hai Tac as their destinations. Up to 26,700 tourists visited the bay each day on April 29 and 30, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.</p> <p>Vacationers also flocked to islands in the locality, especially Quan Lan-Minh Chau in Van Don district with around 60,000 tourists and Co To with about 20,000 visitors.</p> <p>The border city of Mong Cai also lured about 50,000 tourists, with some 10,000 Chinese holiday-makers travelling through Mong Cai International Border Gate each day.</p> <p>On April 28, a grand ceremony heralded the National Tourism Year 2018 hosted by Quang Ninh province and the Carnaval Ha Long programme, a banquet of music, light and art.</p> <p>The carnaval is also the first event of the 2018 National Tourism Year 2018 themed “Ha Long-Heritage, Wonder, Friendly Destination.”</p> <p>Last year, Quang Ninh welcomed more than 10 million tourists, 4 million of them came from other countries. Danang considers controversial tourism project <div> <p>Authorities of the central city of Danang are considering re-planning of a controversial coastal tourism project which has faced local opposition for blocking access to the beach.</p> <div> <div> <table> <tbody> <tr> <td></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Nam O tourism project blocks the road to the sea</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <p>The information was given by municipal party secretary Truong Quang Nghia at a meeting with people in Lien Chieu District where Trung Thuy Group’s Nam O tourism project is located.</p> <p>The project investor has set up a two-metre fence at Nam O beach to zone the project, which has blocked the road to the sea.</p> <p>According to local residents, the empty plot zoned by the project had been used as a football pitch for people from three surrounding villages. The area also had rocks which attracted many tourists who come to take photos. The rocks also help to calm the tides, so they don’t want them destroyed by the project.</p> <p>The city’s Party Secretary Truong Quang Nghia said that municipal authorities have also cared about the project as it is situated in the area which has old traditional handicraft villages and historical sites.</p> <p>“This is a big lesson for the city is that it needs to be more careful in selecting projects,” Nghia said, adding that municipal authorities are considering the re-planning of the project following the public protest.</p> <p>Nghia cited some projects in Ngu Hanh Son District as an example of terrible planning. Crowds flock to tourist attractions during national holidays <div> <div><span>Cai Rang floating market – a tourist attraction in Can Tho (Source: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho welcomed nearly 120,000 tourists during the four-day holidays celebrating the country’s National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1).</p> <p>The city estimated to earn 36.4 billion VND (1.59 million USD) from tourism services, up 19.4 percent year-on-year, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.</p> <p>Tourist attractions in the city include Ninh Kieu walking bridge, Ninh Kieu wharf, Cai Rang floating market, Phuong Nam Truc Lam Zen Monastery, and My Khanh ecotourism village.</p> <p>On this occasion, the city held a string of cultural and sport activities to attract visitors, such as the National Motor Racing Championship, a book exhibition, and photo exhibitions.</p> <p>Meanwhile, the central province of Phu Yen is also an attractive destination for holidaymakers.</p> <p>From April 25 to May 1, the province served more than 34,000 tourists, a year-on-year rise of 30 percent. Almost 51,000 people visit President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum <div> <div><span>People visit President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (Source: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – The President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum welcomed nearly 51,000 visitors, including 11,500 foreigners during holidays in celebration of the 43rd National Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1), according to the mausoleum’s management board.</p> <p>During the holidays, the management board has coordinated with units in the Ba Dinh Historical-Cultural Relic Complex, and authorised agencies of Hanoi to well serve domestic and foreign visitors.</p> <p>Especially, on May 1, the management board provided free water and breads for visitors.</p> <p>The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is an important landmark of Hanoi capital city and stands integrated to the political and social history of Vietnam.</p> <p>After his death on September 2, 1969, President Ho Chi Minh was embalmed and put for view in this granite mausoleum.
