(VEN) – Binh Dinh Province is seeking to attract more visitors and become a leading tourist center in the southern central region and the Central Highlands.
Binh Dinh Province’s Quy Nhon City was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Champa. It is home to some of the most beautiful beaches, coral reefs, rapids, sand dunes and islands in Vietnam. Binh Dinh is also renowned for historical relic sites with rich archaeological findings, and for its diverse festivals, such as Tay Son, Binh Dinh Martial Arts, fish worshiping and craft village festivals.
Binh Dinh’s Phu Cat Airport is planned for development as an international airport, and the province is also served by the Dieu Tri railway station and Quy Nhon seaport. The FLC Group plans to build 1,500 deluxe hotel rooms soon in Binh Dinh, while many newly opened hotels and resorts are under trial runs. Nguyen Xuan Lan, Vice President of the Binh Dinh Tourism Association and Director of the Golden Life Travel Company, said most tourist service providers in Binh Dinh have acknowledged the importance of sustainable development, and they are contributing greatly to improving the province’s image.
According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2017, Binh Dinh welcomed about 3.7 million visitors, up 15.6 percent from 2016, earning total revenue of more than VND2.13 trillion, up 42.5 percent from the previous year. However, provincial leaders say tourism development in Binh Dinh remains incommensurate with its potential.
Tourism service providers in the province need to beef up information for visitors, and increase capacity to satisfy demand during peak seasons. Roads to tourist attractions located far away from the provincial center need to be upgraded or built, while most provincial tourism enterprises are super small in size and lacking experience.
Binh Dinh is expected to attract more than four million visitors in 2018, nine percent higher than 2017, and turn tourism into an important economic sector by 2020. Research and surveys will be conducted to develop tours to a number of destinations in the province, such as the Lang Song printing house as part of the Long Song Church, craft villages, and areas in the northern part of the province, as well as Binh Dinh martial art learning tours.
The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has suggested that the provincial people’s committee seek permission from relevant authorities to open air routes from Phu Cat Airport to Japan, the Republic of Korea, and China. The department will work with the Binh Dinh Tourism Association to train human resources and prepare facilities to serve foreign visitors well.
Binh Dinh Province has set a target of 5.5 million visitors by 2020, including 800,000 foreign tourists. This would represent an average annual tourism growth of 14.5 percent and provide revenues of VND10 trillion.
