NA leader attends opening ceremony of 2018 National Tourism Year <div> <div><span>Art performance at the opening ceremony (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p>Quang Ninh,  (VNA) – A grand ceremony heralded the National Tourism Year 2018 and the Carnaval Ha Long programme in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh on April 28, with the presence of several Party, National Assembly and Government leaders. </p> <p>Chairman of Quang Ninh People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long said the province is honoured to be chosen to host the National Tourism Year 2018. He said 100 events will be held throughout the year, with more than 50 in Quang Ninh alone, promising that the activities will bring impressive and interesting experience for visitors.</p> <p>National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan stressed the role of tourism in Quang Ninh’s socio-economic development.</p> <p>Noting that the Politburo had issued Resoluton 08-NQ/TW on turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector, Ngan said to realize the goals set by resolution, the National Tourism Year has been organized annually. Da Nang opens tourist season in 2018 <div> <div><span>Dragon bridge in Da Nang (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Da Nang (VNA)</strong> – Da Nang launched the tourist season in 2018 on April 27 at the Bien Dong Park in the city’s Son Tra peninsula with a programme of more than 20 activities, aiming to lure and entertain visitors to the coastal city.</p> <p>Prominent among the events will be a Kayak racing competition, a kite contest and pavilions introducing Da Nang tourism information, sea cuisines, tour services and performance of sea sports. Music performances will also be organised every night.</p> <p>A painting contest themed sea and islands will be held for children, together with various other activities.</p> <p>Special decorations have been installed in My Khe beach.</p> <p>According to Nguyen Duc Vu, Vice Director of the Management Board of Son Tra peninsula and Da Nang beaches, the programme aims to promote new tourism services of the city and provide more entertainment to locals and visitors during the four-day holiday on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30) and the 132nd May Day (May 1).</p> <p>It is also expected to raise public awareness of protecting sea environment, he added.</p> <p>Da Nang is a popular tourist destination of Vietnam. About 2,000 artists of the province and art troupes from Brazil, Ukraine, China and Cuba, among others, will perform at the event.</p> <p>Tickets will be distributed free for local people and tourists at Ha Long city and the entrance of Sun Carnival Square, the venue of the ceremony, which is able to host more than 10,200 spectators.</p> <p>According to the provincial Tourism Department, Quang Ninh is estimated to welcome about 575,000 visitors during the four-day holiday (from April 28 – May 1) celebrating the Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1), representing a rise of 25 percent year-on-year.</p> <p>During the National Tourism Year 2018, a series of festivals will be held in 14 localities of Quang Ninh.</p> <p>The province, home to the world natural heritage site of Ha Long Bay, is the host of the National Tourism Year 2018 themed “Ha Long-Heritage, Wonder, Friendly Destination”. Tapping Binh Dinh Province’s tourism potential <div> <p>(VEN) – Binh Dinh Province is seeking to attract more visitors and become a leading tourist center in the southern central region and the Central Highlands.</p> <div> <p>Binh Dinh Province’s Quy Nhon City was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Champa. It is home to some of the most beautiful beaches, coral reefs, rapids, sand dunes and islands in Vietnam. Binh Dinh is also renowned for historical relic sites with rich archaeological findings, and for its diverse festivals, such as Tay Son, Binh Dinh Martial Arts, fish worshiping and craft village festivals.</p> <p>Binh Dinh’s Phu Cat Airport is planned for development as an international airport, and the province is also served by the Dieu Tri railway station and Quy Nhon seaport. The FLC Group plans to build 1,500 deluxe hotel rooms soon in Binh Dinh, while many newly opened hotels and resorts are under trial runs. Nguyen Xuan Lan, Vice President of the Binh Dinh Tourism Association and Director of the Golden Life Travel Company, said most tourist service providers in Binh Dinh have acknowledged the importance of sustainable development, and they are contributing greatly to improving the province’s image.</p> <p>According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2017, Binh Dinh welcomed about 3.7 million visitors, up 15.6 percent from 2016, earning total revenue of more than VND2.13 trillion, up 42.5 percent from the previous year. However, provincial leaders say tourism development in Binh Dinh remains incommensurate with its potential.</p> <p>Tourism service providers in the province need to beef up information for visitors, and increase capacity to satisfy demand during peak seasons. Roads to tourist attractions located far away from the provincial center need to be upgraded or built, while most provincial tourism enterprises are super small in size and lacking experience.</p> <p>Binh Dinh is expected to attract more than four million visitors in 2018, nine percent higher than 2017, and turn tourism into an important economic sector by 2020. Research and surveys will be conducted to develop tours to a number of destinations in the province, such as the Lang Song printing house as part of the Long Song Church, craft villages, and areas in the northern part of the province, as well as Binh Dinh martial art learning tours.</p> <p>The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has suggested that the provincial people’s committee seek permission from relevant authorities to open air routes from Phu Cat Airport to Japan, the Republic of Korea, and China. The department will work with the Binh Dinh Tourism Association to train human resources and prepare facilities to serve foreign visitors well.</p> <p>Binh Dinh Province has set a target of 5.5 million visitors by 2020, including 800,000 foreign tourists. Holiday season hits fever pitch as tours book up <div> <div> <div><span>Vistors at VITM travel fair in Hanoi (Photo: VNA)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Hanoi (VNS/VNA)</strong> – People in the capital have made preparations for the upcoming four-day (from April 28 – May 1) holiday celebrating the Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1), and many of them will be traveling. <p>Many tourism companies are reporting a 20 percent increase in bookings as compared to non-holiday days.</p> <p>Popular destinations near Hanoi include Sa Pa (Lao Cai province); Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island (Quang Ninh province); Tam Dao mountain (Vinh Phuc province) and Ninh Binh province and those further away, including the central cities of Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Phu Yen, Nha Trang, the coastal town of Mui Ne (Binh Thuan province) and Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang province).</p> <p>People with more money may choose travel to Southeast Asian countries, East Asia and Europe.</p> <p>For months before this holiday travel agencies in Hanoi have prepared relevant tours to serve tourists.</p> <p>The Vietravel Tourism Company has worked to keep tour prices reasonable as compared with low-season prices.</p> <p>The company will serve around 24,000 tourists, a 20 percent increase against the same period last year.</p> <p>Up to now, the number of guests booking the company’s domestic tours has reached 70 percent and the number of guests booking foreign tours has reached 80 percent of the company’s plan for this point in the year.</p> <p>Vietravel has also implemented a charter programme in which travelers can book a full plane and “free & easy” programmes (including hotel, flight and booking) to meet tourists’ diversified demands.</p> <p>The Hanoi Red Tours Company since the beginning of the year has negotiated with partners like airlines and hotel systems in and outside the country to book flights for convenient days at the best prices. The company’s tours for this occasion have lured thousands of people. Many tours to the US, Dubai and Japan have been fully booked.</p> <p>New tours include Bangkok-Pataya, Singapore-Malaysia, Seoul-Everland-Nami, and Germany-the Netherlands-Belgium-France.</p> <p>The number of guests booking the tours of the company has surpassed 90 percent of the company’s available spots.</p> <p>Nguyen Tien Dat, deputy director of the Trans-Viet Company, confirmed that the number of guests booking the company’s tours increased 20-25 percent against the same period last year.</p> <p>Various tours departing on convenient days have been sold out to destinations like Da Nang, Singapore, Thailand and the Republic of Korea.</p> <p>“On this holiday, more guests prefer travelling abroad to various destinations like Europe, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Dubai, Turkey, South Africa and the US,” he said. “Up to now, the number of guests booking our tours has reached 80 percent of the plan.”</p> <p>Since the holiday was announced early, tourists have been more active in planning and booking.</p> <p>The holiday is also the beginning of summer holiday, so many localities have prepared to open summer tourism services to mark the occasion. Travel tours, craft villages paired to promote Vietnamese goods <div> <div> <div><span>Foreign tourists in Bat Trang pottery village in Hanoi (Source: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – An official has said Hanoi’s tourism products should be associated with advertising high-quality goods, especially those which are the signature of craft villages.</p> <p>“The efforts aim to develop the city’s high-quality tourism products while contributing to implementing the ‘Vietnamese prioritise Vietnamese products’ campaign,” said Tran Duc Hai, Director of the municipal Department of Tourism (DoT).</p> <p>In 2017, Hanoi took steps to promote local tourism, instructing local travel agencies to offer tours including shopping for locally-made products. </p> <p>The tours taught foreign tourists about Vietnamese high-quality goods, particularly the products of Hanoi-based traditional craft villages, Hai said.</p> <p>Hanoi is home to more than 1,350 craft villages, 45 percent of the nation’s total number.</p> <p>The villages offer many unique products in terms of technique and design. (Photo:VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>HCM City (VNA)</strong> - Social platforms are effective channels where online tourism firms interact with potential customers, and the travel industry must transform to keep pace with technological changes, experts have said.</p> <p>La Quoc Khanh, deputy director of the HCM City Department of Tourism, said the fourth industrial revolution is making its way into people’s lives, with almost every device being connected with the internet, representing a new way of communicating and doing business.</p> <p>With Industry 4.0, the tourism industry must figure out how to adopt new technologies to engage with a customer and gain market share, he told an online tourism forum held on April 13 in HCM City as part of the HCM City Tourism Fair.</p> <p>Vietnam ended 2017 with GDP growth of 6.8 percent, Huynh Bich Tran, deputy director of Nielsen Vietnam, a global information and measurement company, said.</p> <p>The service sector also saw significant growth, and contributing to this was increasing tourism and a number of government initiatives, she said.</p> <p>The number of domestic tourists reached 73 million last year, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent, while the number of foreign tourists rose by 30 percent to 13 million. </p> <p>Vietnamese consumer confidence finished 2017 on a high note as Vietnam continued to be ranked as the seventh most optimistic country in the world, according to the latest issue of the Conference Board Global Consumer Confidence Survey done in collaboration with Nielsen.</p> <p>There was a sustained high confidence level among Vietnamese consumers through 2017, the survey found.</p> <p>Vietnamese consumers were eager to spend on big ticket items to enhance the quality of life. Nearly half of all consumers were willing to spend their spare cash on buying new clothes (49 percent) and on holidays (44 percent).</p> <p>There were 23 million “connected” spenders – referring to people who have access to the internet — in Vietnam in 2015 and the number is expected to nearly double to 40 million by 2025, according to Nielsen.</p> <p>By 2025 their spending is expected to account for a half of all consumer spending.</p> <p>Smartphones sustain the growth momentum as usage and ownership keep increasing in Vietnam.</p> <p>According to the 2017 Nielsen Vietnam Smartphone Insights Report, the number of people using smartphones accounted for 84 percent of all phone users in 2017 compared to 78 percent a year earlier.</p> <p>In secondary cities, 71 percent of people use smartphones out of the 93 percent that use mobile phones.</p> <p>More notably, in rural areas, while 89 percent of the population own a mobile phone, 68 percent of them possess a smartphone.</p> <p>Social media could be a channel to bring customers to online tourism enterprises, and optimising access for connected customers holds the key to success, Tran said.</p> <p>Some sources that customers consult before using services include social media (60 percent), friends and relatives (48 percent) and online travel forums (45 percent), she said.</p> <p>The feedback and comments on forums from earlier customers have a strong effect on the decision of new customers, she added.</p> <p>According to Jennifer Chau, business manager of Facebook Vietnam, on average Vietnamese customers spend three hours a day on mobile phones, more than on newspapers (56 minutes), television (1.4 hours) or radio (43 minutes).</p> <p>It is expected that by 2021 half of online tourism revenues would come from mobile phones.</p> <p>“There are 59 million active Facebook users in Vietnam, with 97 percent of them using smart phones to browse,” she said.</p> <p>All travellers are users of social platforms and Facebook is the top social platform, according to Chau.</p> <p>Creative videos with good contents are the most effective way to touch potential customers.-VNA </p> </div> <br /> Social media – effective tool for tourism companies Related image(s)<br /> <img height="200" src="http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png" width="200" /><br />

Hanoi works to improve tourism quality <div> <div><span>Keo co (tug of war) game held at walking area around Hoan Kiem lake (Source: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – Hanoi’s tourism sector is taking measures to turn the capital city into a safe, friendly, quality and attractive destination.</p> <p>The sector is joining in the city’s efforts to plant 1 million trees across the city, ensure urban transport order and address pavement and road encroachment.</p> <p>The walking area around Hoan Kiem lake will be maintained, while more restaurants and bars in Hoan Kiem district will be allowed to open until 2 AM on Fridays and weekends.</p> <p>Nguyen Anh Quan, Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee, said the pilot of longer opening hours for several restaurants and bars since September 1, 2017 has proved effective.</p> <p>The municipal Tourism Department has also worked with districts and towns in calling for investors to get involved in tourism development to develop typical products of each locality.</p> <p>Currently, Co Do painter village in Ba Vi district, Van Phuc silk village in Ha Dong district, Bat Trang pottery village in Gia Lam district, Son Tay town’s Duong Lam ancient village and Phu Xuyen district’s Van Tu tailor village are receiving assistance in tourism development.</p> <p>These villages have been helped to make video clips and voice-overs to be introduced to travel agencies and tourists. More fact-finding tours to the villages have been orgnanised for travel agencies, so they can design tours to these destinations.</p> <p>Tran Duc Hai, Director of the tourism department, said Hanoi strives to welcome 25.4 million tourists, including 5.5 million foreigners, this year. It targets to earn more than 75.7 trillion VND (3.3 billion USD) from tourism.</p> <p>The capital city welcomed about 23.83 million tourists, including 4.95 million foreigners, in 2017, representing increases of 9 percent and 23 percent, respectively. New air routes promise cheap flights in summer 2018 <div> <p>New international air routes from Vietnam have been launched from March to fly directly to Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Seoul.</p> <div> <div> <p>Low-cost airline AirAsia plans to open a direct flight from Hanoi to Penang, Malaysia from July 1, 2018. This is the exclusive route operated by Air Asia with a frequency of four flights per week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Previously, passengers travelling from Hanoi to Penang have to transit in Kuala Lumpur airport.</p> <p>On the occasion, AirAsia offers discounts for one-way tickets from Hanoi to Penang at prices from over VND1 million (including tax and fees).</p> <p>In June, travel and transportation services company WorldTrans also plans to kick off direct charter flights between Can Tho and Bangkok and operate eight flights between the two destinations, using the 180-seater Airbus 320 aircraft from Thai VietJet. The flying time will be 1:25. Con Co island district wakes up tourism potential <div> <div><span>A view of Con Co Island in Quang Tri province (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Quang Tri (VNA)</strong> – The rich potential for marine tourism development in Con Co island district in the central coastal province of Quang Tri has been awaken through investment in infrastructure.</p> <p>Con Co island, about 17 nautical miles offshore Cua Viet town, is at the southern mouth of the Gulf of Tonkin and considered an outpost watch of the country.</p> <p>It takes about two hours for visitors to reach the island by boat. With many beautiful pristine beaches, the 2.3-square-kilometre Con Co is an ideal place for sea bathing and fishing.</p> <p>Coral reefs including the rare red ones are found in the sea around the island.</p> <p>Con Co is also covered by vast areas of primeval forests that make up 70 percent of the island’s total area with floral diversity.</p> <p>The island is renowned as a fierce battlefield during the wartime in Vietnam, with many relics still remaining such as a thousand-metre long tunnel.</p> <p>When the night falls, visitors could stroll along coastal roads to enjoy the fresh air and quiet atmosphere. </p> <p>Tourists could experience homestay services in the island to explore the local daily life and learn to make seafood dishes by themselves.</p> <p>The Con Co island district was established in October 2004. </p> <p>Over the past time, Quang Tri province has focused investment on building water supply systems, medical centres, schools, residential areas and other facilities to improve local lives.</p> <p>The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has connected the island has been connected with the national grid since August 2017.</p> <p>Chairman of the district People’s Committee Le Minh Tuan said the connection with the national grid has created positive changes for local socio-economic development, especially tourism.</p> <p>In 2017, Quang Tri announced a project to open the Con Co island tourism route. In January 2018, the district’s People’s Committee signed a contract building a high-speed boat to carry passengers to the island with a total investment of over 22 billion VND (961,400 USD). HCM City promotes tourism links with other localities <div> <div><span>Ben Thanh Market, a tourist destination in HCM City (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>HCM City (VNA)</strong> – Ho Chi Minh City is seeking to enhance connectivity with other localities nationwide to become more attractive to tourists.</p> <p>Tuoi tre (Youth) Newspaper held a forum on inter-regional tourism connectivity of the southern economic hub of Vietnam on April 4.</p> <p>Director of the municipal Tourism Department Bui Ta Hoang Vu said HCM City is a hotspot for many outstanding tourism products nationwide like MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions), shopping-entertainment tourism and cultural-culinary tourism. It is a must-visit destination for tourists to Vietnam.</p> <p>The city welcomed more than 1.3 million tourist arrivals in the first three months of 2018, he noted.</p> <p>However, to develop tourism sustainably, cooperation is needed, he said, adding that inter-regional tourism connectivity does not reduce the strength and market share of each locality but increases their competitiveness and expands their market more easily, thus creating unique tourism products, lengthening tourists’ stay and boosting revenue.</p> <p>HCM City is enhancing bilateral and multilateral connections with localities in Dong Thap Muoi sub-region, the east of the Mekong Delta and the northern, central and Central Highlands regions. It will also continue carrying out solutions to attract tourism investment, Vu added.</p> <p><strong><a>[HCM City eyes 7.5 million foreign visitors in 2018]</a></strong></p> <p>Trinh Hang, Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, said after years of tourism cooperation with HCM City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau has become a familiar destination for tourists visiting HCM City. More than 85 percent of visitors to Vung Tau city come from HCM City.</p> <p>Several travel companies, hotels, restaurants and resorts in HCM City have established branches in Vung Tau, helping to raise local tourism revenue.</p> <p>Hang said his province will continue working with the nearby city to provide more tourism products and attract domestic and foreign visitors.</p> <p>Addressing the forum, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem affirmed that the city’s tourism must be connected with other regions nationwide to develop sustainably. Hundred-thousands gift vouchers to be offered to visitors at Tourism Day <div> <div> <div>The event called Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Day 2018 themed “Exploring Summer” will be organized at the September 23 Park in district 1 from April 12-15.</div> <div>The travel show is expected to attract around 150 display booths of travel agents, hotels and representatives from tourism promotion agencies of cities and provinces nationwide to publicize their brands and offer tourist products to local and international travelers.</div> <div>Around 60,000 local and international tours will be on special offer and discount  during the event.</div> <div>Various activities will be held during the festival, such as the award ceremony honoring 100 outstanding tourist brands, singing contest, cultural exchanges between localities throughout the country.</div> <div>Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Day is one the annual largest tourism events of the city. Tour explores Xoan singing in ancient village <div> <div> <div><span>Illustrative image (Source: VNA)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Phu Tho (VNA)</strong> – A ceremony to announce a tourism product called “Xoan singing in ancient village” and daily tour linking Hanoi and the northern midland province of Phu Tho took place in the latter locality on April 4. <p>Accordingly, artisans and members of Xoan troupes will perform from 2-4pm at Hung Lo communal house every day and from 2-4pm at Lai Len temple every Saturday and Sunday.</p> <p>During the Hung Kings Temple Festival from April 20-25, xoan singing performances will be staged from 8am – 4pm every day in the above venues.</p> <p>The daily tour will bring tourists to Hung Kings Temple relic site, Hung Kings museum, Hung Lo ancient village and Lai Len temple, contributing to building Viet Tri into a festival city and popularising tours around the province and the city in particular.</p> <p>In the near future, travel agencies will continue introducing Xoan singing and Hung Kings worship rituals – two UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritages of humanity to the public.</p> <p>At the ceremony, the provincial Centre for Tourism Information – Promotion, Viet Tri municipal People’s Committee and travel agencies signed an agreement to launch Hanoi – Phu Tho daily tour.<br /> , <br /> Closely linked to the worship of Hung Kings, Xoan singing is a religious practice rooted in the ancestor worship of the Vietnamese people. Can Tho welcomes 2.4 million visitors in Q1 <div> <div><span>Visitors at Cai Rang Floating Market in Can Tho city (Source: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Can Tho (VNA)</strong> – More the 2.4 million people visited the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in the first three months of 2018, up 13.6 percent year on year and realising 30.2 percent of the yearly target.</p> <p>Tourism brought in 895 billion VND (39.29 million USD) during the period, an annual increase of 20.9 percent. The revenue met 25.7 percent of target set for 2018.</p> <p>Le Minh Son, Vice Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, attributed the results to myriad activities held in celebration of the lunar New Year holiday, particularly the opening of nine more tourism sites.</p> <p>A range of tourism promotion programmes have been launched, such as piloting guitar and calligraphy performances on Ninh Kieu Wharf every Sunday and introducing three food and fashion streets.</p> <p>The city plans to boost quality of local tourist destinations, while offering new destinations and tourism services.
