Compared to the 2015 index, Vietnam climbed by eight places.

The country scored 3.78 points, the same score as Oman (66th) and Romania (68th).

The main drivers of the country’s travel and tourism competitiveness are its natural resources (34th), cultural resources (30th) and price competitiveness (35th).

Vietnam has made significant progress on its human resources and labour market (37th, up 18 places) scores, thanks to a better qualified labour force (53rd) and partially simplified regulations to hire foreign labour (75th).

It has also made exceptional improvements to its ICT capacity and usage (80th, up 17).

At the same time, continued economic development has led to expanding business travel (further increasing 3 places). Security and safety perception (57th) are also making Vietnam an increasingly attractive destination for developing its travel and tourism sector.

In ASEAN, Singapore took the lead with 4.85 points but ranked 13th, down 2 places from 2015, with Malaysia at 26th (down 1 rank), Thailand at 34th (up 1 rank), Indonesia at 42nd (up 8 ranks), the Philippines at 79th (down 5 ranks), Laos at 94th (up 2 ranks) and Cambodia at 101st (up 4 ranks).

The World Economic Forum ranks Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index every two years, based on four key elements: environment, policy, infrastructure, natural resources and culture for the tourism industry. All are rated from 1 to 7 points./.
