HCMC – Authorities of Danang City on February 15 unveiled a master plan for developing Son Tra Peninsula into a national tourism site by 2025 with a vision towards 2030. The plan had got the nod from the Prime Minister earlier.

About 10 kilometers northeast of the central area, the tourism site spanning over 1,000 hectares is nestled on Son Tra Peninsula in Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, the Government said on its news website.

The specific focus will be to develop the venue meeting the requirements for a national tourism site such as the sustainable exploitation of marine and forest resources, prioritizing the development of eco-tourism associated with sports, luxury marine, cultural and spiritual tourism products.

Importance will be attached to protecting national security, maritime sovereignty and the environment, conserve the biodiversity, preserving natural resources, and preventing natural disasters.

The tourism site is expected to attract 3.5 million visitors and earn around VND1.9 trillion in revenue by 2025, and the respective figures would rise to 4.6 million visitors and nearly VND4.3 trillion by 2030.

It aims to lure international tourists from North America (the U.S.), Western Europe (France, Germany and England), Northeast Asia (Japan and South Korea) and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia). Special attention will be paid to developing ecotourism, luxury marine and adventure sports tourism products for moneyed travelers.

The master plan has outlined basic tasks for the city such as investment, product development, promotion and destination management so that the area keeps its unique values intact and in harmony with the environment, and links with other local and national destinations, according to Ha Van Sieu, deputy head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

Son Tra Peninsula is regarded as the green lung for the coastal city with a rich flora ecosystem and popular tourism sites like Linh Ung-Bai But Pagoda. Especially, the peninsula is home to around 300 red-shanked douc langurs on the list of endangered species. This will be one of the highlights to attract tourists to the area.
