Vietnamese people to enjoy travel cards to APEC member economies late this year

During the third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting 3 and Related Meetings held in Da Nang city from September 6-17, a programme on granting travel card to businesspeople was proposed at the Business Mobility Group (BMG) discussions.

Participants at the meetings voiced positive opinions about Vietnam’s implementation of the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) programme, especially the quick registration process under which applicants from other APEC member economies will only take 7-14 days to receive an entry card into Vietnam. The process will be faster than in other economies.

By the end of August 2006, Vietnam had granted travel cards to 9,111 businesspeople out of 9,303 applicants since it joined the programme in January the same year, according to a representative from the Migration Management Department under the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security.

A BMG report said that only 17 out of 21 APEC member economies have so far joined the programme, while the other four, Canada, Mexico, Russia, and the US, remain undecided.
