Vietnam to host ceremony welcoming 10 millionth foreign visitor in 2016

Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) will host a ceremony to welcome the10 millionth foreign visitor to Vietnam, according to an announcement in a meeting in Hanoi on December 22.

Addreessing the event, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan said the country’s tourism sector has gained many outstanding achievements in this year, including the the largest number ever of international tourists of 10 million which represents an increase of 2 million visitors comparing to 2015.

He added the number of domestic travelers in the previous year was 62million. Earnings from the national tourism industry reached VND 400 trillion (US$17 billion).

The tourism industry sector expects to receive 11.5 million foreign visitor and 66 million local arrivals; total income will reach VND460 trillion in 2017.

According to Vietnam Airlines, a visitor from the UK will be the 10 millionth foreign visitor to Vietnam, the 9,999,999th and the 10,000,001 will be foreign tourists from Germany and Sweden respectively.
