HCMC – Low-cost VietJetAir on Tuesday became the second air carrier behind Vietnam Airlines to join a tourism stimulus program by signing an agreement with the HCMC Tourism Association to offer discounted airfares for travel firms’ passengers.

The budget airline cut the deal in the city, offering a sharp discount of up to 49% for those buying tours at 24 travel firms. Given the deal, such tourism companies will be able to offer packaged tours with discounts of up to 25-30%.

The discounted airfares are applicable to flights from HCMC to Hanoi, Haiphong, Vinh, Danang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Buon Ma Thuot.

Visitors can purchase discount tours at these 24 travel firms, including big names like Saigontourist Travel Service Co., Ben Thanh Tourist, Vietravel, Cho Lon Tourist, Festival, Fiditourist, Peace Tour, Lien Bang Travelink and Lua Viet.

The demand stimulus program will last from this Thursday to August 14, 2014. It is not applicable to tours taking place during National Day and New Year and Lunar New Year holidays.

Participating tour operators will cooperate with partners like restaurants and hotels to sell packaged tours with discounts ranging from 25% to 30%.

The tourism association has since the end of April joined forces with Vietnam Airlines to carry out a similar tourism demand stimulus program for tours from HCMC to Danang, Hanoi, Haiphong, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc and round trips for Can Tho-Hanoi, HCMC-Quy Nhon, HCMC-Rach Gia and Rach Gia-Phu Quoc routes.

With the special program, Vietnam Airlines offers discounts of 38-58% for 12 member enterprises of the association, allowing them to launch packaged tours at discounts of 23-52% compared to normal prices.

Ten out of 12 participating companies had sold tours to nearly 10,000 travelers heading to Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Danang, Hanoi and Haiphong from May to last month, five-fold higher than the same period in 2012, the association reports.
