Việt Nam, Japan plan to boost mutual tourism

HÀ NỘI – Top Việtnamese and Japanese tourism officials have made a commitment to strengthen co-operation between the two countries.

They discussed strategy to promote tourism and bring more tourists to each other’s markets during a workshop held on Saturday in Hà Nội. Delegates from the Việt Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) attended the event.

The JATA delegation also visited some destinations in the northern provinces of Hòa Bình and Lào Cai.

Ngô Hoài Chung, deputy director of the VNAT, said Japan is an important market for Vietnamese travel companies. Việt Nam attends the JATATourism Expo annually to seek cooperation opportunities and introduce Vietnamese tourism.

Việt Nam has exempted Japanese tourists from visa requirements since 2004. Chung expects Japan will soon exempt Vietnamese tourists from visa requirements.

Chung said nearly 500,000 tourists from Japan had visited Viet Nam within the first eight months of 2016. – VNS
