HCMC – The high-end Princess Daphne cruise ship of Portugal last Saturday brought around 300 cruise passengers and crew members, mostly Australians, to visit HCMC and My Tho. This was the first trip by the cruise ship to the country this year as part of its schedule of several trips to Vietnam in the coming months.

Cruise passengers from the ship have visited attractions in HCMC, My Tho as well as explored culture and daily life of local people via activities such as shopping at the Ben Thanh market, and visiting cake making and lacquer shops among others.

According to Saigontourist Travel Service Co., which is the local tour operator serving the cruise ship, the Princess Daphne will bring more passengers on a longer trip next month, taking in Nha Trang, Halong and Danang.

On this Saturday, Saigontourist will receive around 2,200 cruise passengers and crew members from another cruise ship, the Costa Classica, which will visit HCMC, Danang and Halong.

The number of international cruise ships to the country is on the rise. Viet Excursions, a company serving foreign cruise ships, said that the company is very busy throughout the first quarter of the year with many ships scheduled for coming. Most of the ships bring between 500 and 800 passengers each, but some ships such as Queen Elizabeth, Queen Marry 2 and Artemis can bring 1,500 to 2,500 guests each to the country.
