VGP – The direct contribution of tourism to Viet Nam’s GDP was nearly VND279.3 trillion, or 6.6% of GDP, ranking 40th among 184 nations in the world, according a report of the World Travel and Tourism Council in March 2016.
The total contribution of the tourism sector (including direct and indirect contribution and public investment) to Viet Nam’s GDP hit VND584.88 trillion, accounting for 13.9%.
The sector created 6,035,500 jobs, including 2,783,000 direct jobs, making up 5.2% as well as attracted VND113,497 billion in investment, accounting for 10.4%.
Last year, Viet Nam welcomed 7.94 million foreign visitors, according to the General Statistics Office.
In April this year, the number of domestic visitors reached 11 million ones while foreign arrivals reached 370,000.
