Prosecutors in the southern province of Kien Giang have approved charges against eight men for shooting two people to death, including a pregnant woman, at a beer club on Phu Quoc Island in August.

The main suspect Do Thanh Son, 32, who allegedly fired the shots, will be charged with murder, illegally using guns, possessing drugs and having sex with a minor.

His 15-year old girlfriend, who was with him during a police manhunt, faces no criminal charges, the police said.

Nguyen Trong Nghia, who accompanied Son and helped him carry out the shooting, has been charged with murder, while five others are indicted for possessing guns and helping Son escape.

Son and Nghia, armed with guns and knives, searched for Huynh Thanh Bao, 19, to settle an old score at the Lion Garden club on August 1.

Son allegedly fired several shots that killed Bao and Thai Thi Thanh Mai, 31, a pregnant woman who happened to be celebrating her birthday at the club and was involved with neither men.

Helped by his accomplices, Son fled the scene and hid in a house with his girlfriend.

On August 4, when the police surrounded the house, he shot himself and the girl.

The duo suffered severe injuries but recovered later in hospital.

The police also found two bags of methamphetamines that Son had with him.
