VietNamNet Bridge – The ancient Dong Son Village in Ham Rong Ward, Thanh Hoa City has been known by many Western scientists since the last century.

Dong Son is a small village on the south bank of the Ma River, next to Ham Rong Bridge. The village has all the characteristic elements of traditional villages of Vietnam.

The village position allows locals to bring into full play the advantages of water fields and hilly land. The system of monuments like temples, pagodas and shrines was created and distributed to create idyllic landscapes.

Dong Son is one of several ancient villages of Vietnam with a history of thousands of years. The history of the village is associated with the ups and downs of the history of Thanh Hoa.

Scientists discovered the relics of the ancient village of Dong Son dating back more than 2,500 years. The discovery has opened a new chapter to the study of ancient Vietnamese civilization. Since the early 20th century Dong Son has been a world famous archaeological site.

After the glorious period of the Dong Son culture, over a thousand years under the rule of the Northern invaders, Dong Son ancient village remained an important area of Cuu Chan. Many traces of the periods of Han, Tang, and Lu Dynasty discovered in Dong Son village showed the continuing development of this land during the Vietnam – Han intercultural period and the next stages of development.

Dong Son village today still retains many ancient features of a traditional farming village. Currently Dong Son village is located in the Ham Rong tourist area.
