A Vietnam Airlines aircraft with 162 passengers aboard landed safely in Hanoi on Friday morning after a tire problem was detected in mid-air.
A source from the national carrier said its Airbus A321 left Da Nang for Hanoi at 8:30 a.m. Half an hour later, the crew members and its monitoring system found low pressure in a left tire.
The plane was immediately put under emergency control and direct instructions from the transport minister, Vietnam Airlines executives as well as its experienced pilots and engineers from Noi Bai Airport.
It landed safely at Noi Bai at around 10:30 a.m., half an hour behind schedule.
Inspectors later found a cut on the tire, which they said could have been caused by a yet-to-be-unidentified object soon after takeoff.
Lai Xuan Thanh, director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, said that if the problem had occurred before that, the plane’s safety system would have caught it.
No problem has been found with the runway in Da Nang.
The aircraft, which was first put into use in 2013, had its last maintenance three months ago. It has resumed services after the tire problem was fixed.
Transport minister Dinh La Thang said related units all responded well to the incident, adding that local carriers are well-prepared for such situations.
