Authorities in the central city of Da Nang have fined two local shops that only serve Chinese and South Korean customers.
H.A natural rubber showroom under the management of Tue Dan Travel Company on Xuan Thuy Street, Cam Le District, only sells its products to Chinese customers, meanwhile Sao Dai Han souvenir shop in Son Tra District’s Vo Nguyen Giap Street are only open to South Korean buyers.
The HA showroom, which was found selling imported bedding accessories without quality certification and sub-labels in Vietnamese, was fined VND15.5 million (USD692).
Sao Dai Han store had to pay the fine of VND4.8 million for selling imported products without the Vietnamese sub-labels.
Asked about its alleged discriminatory policies, Nguyen Hoang Phu Yen, director of Tue Dan Travel Company said that the HA showroom was inaugurated on December 5 this year, and mostly sells Chinese products. The company has co-operated with some travel agencies to bring Chinese tourists for shopping.
Yen further explained that the showroom had just opened and there has not yet a consensus about who they should be serving among its staff members. Meanwhile, they prioritised tourists, so other customers would have to wait.
Earlier, local newspapers cited some people who live near the showrooms, saying that Vietnamese buyers are totally banned from entering the places.
Lu Bang, deputy director of Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, said that the companies have also made a commitment to make sure that they would serve all customers without discrimination.
