Le Quang Liem has advanced 17 positions to rank 33rd worldwide and 8th in Asia, according to World Chess Federation’s (FIDE) November rankings.
This is the highest monthly ranking for the 24-year-old chess grandmaster since June 2013, when he was listed among world’s 30 best chess players. After that achievement, he never made it to the top 30 again.
In October, Liem secured the runner-up title at the 2nd Millionaire Chess Open in Las Vegas and received personal highest reward of US$50,000. He also won the Spice Cup in Missouri.
He gained 22.1 elo points last month, raising his total score to 2,718.
Players with elo ratings from 2,700 are considered “super grandmaster” by FIDE.
His best ranking was 25th in September 2011.
He is studying finance and banking at Webster University, Missouri, and only competes in selected events.
