​Quang Ngai province is battling an unusual spread of dengue fever, with hundreds of cases reported in recent months. The dengue fever epidemic has appeared in both lowland and mountainous areas.

​As of 22 September 2015, there were 735 cases of dengue fever. The number of reported cases increased by 8 times compared with the same period in 2014.

Dengue fever is a tropical disease spread by mosquitoes, with symptoms including high fever and joint pain. According to the World Health Organization, severe cases need to be treated as soon as possible to avoid lethal complications.

Vietnam reports an average 100,000 dengue fever cases including 100 fatal cases each year.

Most of the victims are children.

On September 28, the Health Ministry set up 10 inspection teams to supervise the prevention mission in 20 localities as well as treatment for the disease including Hanoi city, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Soc Trang, Long An, Tien Giang, Dak Lak and Gia Lai.
