(Cinet)- The ninth tourism, sports and culture festival of ethnic groups in the northeast region in Bac Kan province aimed to promote and preserve the cultural identities of ethnic minority groups opened on September 10.

The event hosted Vice Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Nong Quoc Tuan and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai, among others.

The northeast region comprises Bac Kan, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh and Vinh Phuc provinces.

The 9th tourism, sports and culture festival of ethnic groups in the northeast region comprised diverse cultural activities such as performances of excerpts of outstanding ethnic group festivals, mass art performances, traditional ethnic clothing shows, an exhibition on cultural products and tourism, and a photo exhibition on specific cultural identities in the region.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee asserted the festival aims to promote and preserve the cultural identities of ethnic minority groups in the northeast region while contributing to developing the economy and improving the material and spiritual life of local residents in the process of innovation, integration and development.

On the occasion, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism presented the Certificate of Merit to organisations and individuals who have made great contributions to the event. At the event, a group from Bac Kan province was honoured with the first prize while the second and third prizes came to the Bac Giang and Quang Ninh teams.

The three-day festival closed on September 12.
