The military has agreed to hand over a beach in Cam Ranh Bay near Nha Trang to civilian authorities for tourism development.

Following discussions on August 7 the two sides have agreed on relevant issues, and the Navy would hand over nearly 795 hectares (1965 acres) at Bai Dai Beach to the Khanh Hoa Province People’s Committee this month, Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted Nguyen Chien Thang, chairman of the committee, as saying.

A company has also offered to invest in a tourism complex at the site, including a golf course targeting international visitors arriving at a nearby international port, he said.

Situated 300 km north of Ho Chi Minh City and 45 km south of Nha Trang, Cam Ranh Bay is known for its deep-water port rated as one the best in the world.

It has access to important shipping lines, both military and commercial, in the East Sea.
