‘Colours of Vietnam’ cultural night in New York

(VOV) – A ‘Colours of Vietnam’ cultural night officially opened on August 13 in New York with a large turnout of American friends, representatives from the UN member countries, Vietnamese agencies, Vietnamese people and students, attending.

As part of the Vietnam Days programme in the US to commemorate the 20th anniversary of normalized diplomatic ties, a wide range of cultural events are being organised at the John.F Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.

At the event, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh said the event introduced Vietnamese traditional musical instruments and costumes to the US public, and helped them better understand the long and rich history of Vietnam, along with its diverse cultural identities.

Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Head of the Vietnam Mission to the UN said cultural exchange programmes, such as this, play a key role in healing deep war wounds while building mutual trust and understanding between the two countries.

The New York Historical Society (NYHS) President Louise Mirrer said the event will provide an insight into Vietnamese culture.

The night concluded with a Ao Dai (traditional long dress) fashion show hosted by leading Vietnamese designers.
