Visitors to central provinces rise in first six months

NDO – The central provinces of Da Nang, Quang Nam and Thua Thien – Hue, three of Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations, saw a significant increase in the number of tourist arrivals in first six months of 2015.

According to statistics from Da Nang city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the number of visitor to Da Nang reached 2.2 million in the first six months of 2015, a year-on-year rise of 24.9%. Of them, 600,000 were foreigners, an increase of 33.1% and 1.6 million were domestic visitors, jumping 22% from the same period last year. Revenue from the industry also rose 35% from last year to VND6.2 billion.

According to Pham Phuc Linh – Deputy Director of Da Nang city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city has launched promotional tourism programmes and events to attract visitors.

Meanwhile, Quang Nam province – home of two UNESCO world heritages – welcomed 1.8 million visitors, a year-on-year rise of 7.45%. Of them, 990,000 were foreigners, an increase of 9.6% and 875,000 were domestic visitors, increasing by 5.06% from the same period last year. Revenue from the tourism industry reached VND1.2 billion in the first six months, up 12.97%.

In the first six months, Thua Thien – Hue province’s tourism sector also received 1.5million visitors, an annual increase of 1%, and earned a total revenue in excess of VND1.4 trillion, up 2%.

Aiming to attract an increasing number of visitors, Thua Thien – Hue has developed tourism promotion programs and co-operative activities on tourism development with other localities in the region as well as has improved the quality of cultural and tourism events.
