The Thanh Hoa Province Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced on Tuesday that it has scrapped a scheme to grow macadamia nuts in 2015-20.
Le Van Doc, its deputy director, said more time is needed to create a scientific basis for the scheme.
Doc added that a 2ha pilot plantation of 500 macadamia trees in the Thach Thanh Protective Forest has given different yields depending on the topography — three tonnes per hectare at the base of a hill, and 0.6-0.7 tonnes on the side and top of the hill.
Formerly, People’s Committee of the province assigned the department to map out the scheme.

Country to buy salt to ease producers’ plight
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to instruct the Viet Nam Northern Food Corporation to buy from the 2015 output to reduce supply.
The purchase, aimed at stabilising salt prices, gives priority to localities with huge salt stocks.
According to the ministry, 490,000 tonnes of salt produced in the first four months remained unsold even as prices plunged by VND250-400 per kilogramme.

HCM City will leave out 17 industrial clusters from its master zoning plan for industrial production to ensure there are only 13 industrial zones (IZs) covering 764 hectares in 2020.
According to the city Department of Industry and Trade, the 17 industrial clusters covering a total area of 900 hectares will be converted into industrial parks or areas for industrial production facilities or have their functions changed.
The IZs remaining in the plan will be located mainly in outlying districts like Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, and Nha Be.
