NDO – The Republic of Korea team took the honours at the 29th Golden Racket table tennis championship which wrapped up at the Nguyen Du Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City on July 26.
The RoK team successfully defended their championship, dominating in the men’s team and singles events as well as the women’s team event.
The final of the men’s team event witnessed the internal fight between the RoK A and the RoK B, with the 3-0 victory in favour of team A.
The RoK team also won the title in the women’s singles event after defeating Japan 3-1.
In the men’s singles, Kim Gang Woog from the RoK beat Peng Bo from China 4-1 to bring home the third title for his team.
Meanwhile, there was no surprise in the women’s singles when world No.62 Zeng Jian from Singapore earned the title after crushing Li Tian from China 4-0.
Vietnam, who was hosting the event, only secured one bronze medal in the men’s team event.
The four-day event, one of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) tournaments, was co-hosted by the Municipal Department of Culture and Tourism, the municipal Table Tennis Federation, and Ho Chi Minh City’s The Thao (Sports) Newspaper.
This year’s competitors comprised of 85 players from various Asian countries and territories, including India, Hong Kong (China), Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
