Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao on July 28th signed the decision establishing the Department of Tourism on the basis of separating the state management function on tourism from the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Apart from the state management function on tourism, the Department of Tourism will take responsibility for carrying out solutions to protect, embellish, exploit and use tourism resources, as well as to develop the tourism environment, tourism areas and destinations in Hanoi. It will take over setting plans for tourism promotion plans, organising events, exhibitions and fairs. On the same day, the Chairman signed a decision consolidating the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism into the Department of Culture and Sports. In October 2014, the Department of Ho Chi Minh city Tourism was established on the basis of dividing the state management function on tourism from the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism./.
