The Vietnamese government has issued a resolution waiving visas within a certain time period for tourists from Belarus, starting early next month.
The waiver will be applied to citizens from the East European country starting July 1, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said on Tuesday.
Belarusians whose temporary stay in Vietnam does not exceed 15 days are eligible for the visa waiver irrespective of the kind of passport they hold and the purpose of their trip.
The waiver is to be applied within five years, from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2020, before renewal is considered.
Such a visa waiver has also been applied to citizens from Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019.
Vietnam currently scraps visas for tourists from the ten-country ASEAN bloc.
The Ho Chi Minh City Travel Association recently called on the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to transfer its proposal to add 12 markets to the list of countries exempt from Vietnamese visas to the central government.
