According to the provincial Social Insurance department, as many as of 3,521 health insurance cards have been given to near poor households in districts of Binh Son, Son Tinh, Nghia Hanh, Tu Nghia, Mo Duc, Duc Pho and Quang Ngai city.

This is the program of supporting 30% of health insurance fee for near poor households launched by the Vietnam Women’s Union.

In the beginning of the year 2015, the Vietnam Women’s Union launched the program “Join hands for Vietnamese women’s health”, aiming to call for the support from businesses, benefactors and the community to poor and near poor women, thus enabling them to afford health insurance cards and treatment costs of serious diseases.

Through this program, the Vietnam Women’s Union decided to support 30% of health insurance fee for near poor households in the whole country.

Health insurance cards have special significance in helping women from difficult backgrounds to have opportunities to fight diseases and win. However, for near poor households, although the State has paid 70% of the total health insurance premiums, only 35% of those eligible joined the insurance scheme due to their insufficient financial capacity to contribute the remaining 30%. This hinders near poor households, particularly women to access health care and other social security services.
