(VOV) -Two US Navy ships docked at the Tien Sa Port in the central coastal city of Danang on April 6, for a port visit and to take part in a joint Vietnam-US military exercise.
US Navy ships, USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) arrived in the morning, while USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) followed soon after, carrying a total of more than 400 American navy and marine personnel.
They are scheduled to participate in the 6th annual Naval Engagement Activity (NEA) between Vietnam and the US, the US Navy said in a post.
The USS Fitzgerald is a massive Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer designed for long range battle conditions.
On the other hand, the USS Fort Worth is a much smaller fast Freedom-class littoral combat vessel, designed for coastal water battle space.
During their five-day visit, the US crew members plan to take part in various exchange activities including medical training, search and rescue activities and maritime security.
The two country’s naval forces will join a session for practicing the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES), which was adopted at the 2014 Western Pacific Naval Symposium held in Beijing.
They will also carry out community projects at the Hoa Quy Primary School and Street Children’s Support Centre as well as a number of sports exchanges with students at Danang University.
