Nhan Dan Online – The Vietnam Youth Theatre and the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam signed an agreement on March 12 aimed at improving the theatre’s technical equipment and performer capabilities.
Under the agreement, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam will provide VND1.7 billion (US$80,000) in non-refundable aid to upgrade facilities and contribute to the development of Vietnamese culture.
Additionally, Japan will provide funding to send 15 artists and technicians from the theatre to a training course held in Japan from March 22 to July 13.
At the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said the project would improve both the material facilities and performance skills of the theatre, raising the quality of its performances.
Minister-Counsellor Hideo Suzuki of the Japanese Embassy said that the Vietnam Youth Theatre has played a major role in popularising traditional Vietnamese culture to the nation’s youth. “President Ho Chi Minh taught, ‘For the sake of 10 years’ benefit, we must plant trees; for the sake of 100 years’ benefit, we must cultivate people’. The Vietnam Youth Theatre acted for the sake of 100 years’ benefit”, he said.
