Vietnam’s aviation authorities on Wednesday said that investigators have not found any signs of any incident in the waters near the Spratly Islands, where local fishermen earlier reported that they had seen a plane crash.
On Tuesday morning, maritime rescuers received a report that a fishing vessel in the area had witnessed an airplane crashing into the waters near the islands at 9:00 p.m. the night before.
Witnesses said that the tail of the plane exploded but its lights were still on right before the crash.
Six fishing vessels of the central provinces of Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa reached the area soon later and searched in vain for any missing plane. They found nothing but saw traces of oil on the water.
The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam later contacted aviation authorities of Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia, asking them to confirm if there was any crash.
The administration later announced that it has not found anything unusual within its flight information region, adding that it is still following the case closely.
